This was led by a 6 percent fall in motorcycle sales for the company to 2.46 lakh units, even as three-wheeler sales rose 16 percent to 43,011. Exports, a strong point for the company, grew 10 percent to 1.66 lakh units.
Comparatively, sales for leader Hero MotoCorp grew a marginal 0.2 percent to 5.26 lakh while those for TVS Motor climbed 20 percent to 1.59 lakh units.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18, company MD Rajiv Bajaj said that December was a "soft month" for the auto industry and that he expects sales to bounce back from January.
Providing model and segment-wise details, Bajaj said sales of the Boxer platform stood at 1.1 lakh units, those of Discover came in at 70,000 units while Pulsar and Avenger together sold 65,000 units in December.
Exports continue to do well for the firm, Bajaj said, adding that he expects exports to grow around 22 percent going forward even though some disruptions may take place in its Nigerian markets next month due to elections being held there.
Bajaj is targeting total monthly sales of 3.5 lakh month in 2015, he added.
