External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has once again stroked a controversy by questioning Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's claim of having received a clean chit in 2002 Gujarat riots and comparing him to a nursery student.
Khurshid said, "I don't know of Supreme Court giving clean chit to Modi. A lower court has denied to issue summon to him. It's like a nursery student has scored good marks and thinking himself of a PhD."

The remarks came even after Rahul reprimanded Khurshid for calling Modi 'impotent'. Rahul had said that he condemned his minister Khurshid's 'impotent' remark against Modi, saying he did not "appreciate this kind of language".
Khurshid, while speaking at a rally in his constituency Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh, had used the term while questioning Modi's competency in handling the Gujarat riots of 2002.
"We don't accuse you (Modi) of killing people. Hamara aarop hai ki tum 'napunsak' (impotent) ho. (You are impotent). You couldn't stop the killers," Khurshid added.
Two days ago, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had hit out at Modi over his failure to handle the 2002 riots and sought legal accountability for the 'inexcusable failure' of governance during the riots.
Rahul had dismissed talks of clean chit to him as "politically expedient" but "far too premature". Contending that Modi was answerable on moral grounds as Chief Minister, Rahul had said "beyond that there should be a legal accountability for the clear and inexcusable failure of governance under him".
Rahul had said, "The specific allegation and evidence pointing to Mr Modi's responsibility in the 2002 riots are yet to be adequately probed. Any talk of his having been given a clean chit may be politically expedient, but is far too premature. There are many unanswered questions. There is a lot more the country needs to know."
